CUES is only able to run through the generous donations of our sponsors and associates. In addition to the greatly received funding, these firms regularly provide speakers and event opportunities to the society, whilst also being the core group at our careers fair providing jobs and placement to our members.
Our main sponsors consists of a group of six companies, who also form our Board of Advisors (BOA). Every year the incoming and outgoing committee meet with representatives of our sponsors and present a report of CUES activities and expenditure for the previous year. Here the sponsors have the opportunity to ensure CUES is behaving as it should, and see that the sponsorship is being well distributed.
Our associates, are companies who also generously donate funding, speakers and opportunities, but they do not sit on the BOA.

Founded in 1990, ARM Holdings is the world's leading semiconductor intellectual property (IP) supplier and as such is at the heart of the development of digital electronic products. Headquartered in Cambridge, UK, and employing over 1700 people, ARM has offices around the world, including design centers in France, India, Sweden, and the US. In just twenty years, over 15 billion ARM based chips have been shipped by OEMs. This includes over 600 processor licenses sold to more than 200 companies.
ARM designs the technology that lies at the heart of advanced digital products, from wireless, networking and consumer entertainment solutions to imaging, automotive, security and storage devices. ARM's comprehensive product offering includes 32-bit RISC microprocessors, graphics processors, video engines, enabling software, cell libraries, embedded memories, high-speed connectivity products, peripherals and development tools. Combined with comprehensive design services, training, support and maintenance, and the company's broad Partner community, they provide a total system solution that offers a fast, reliable path to market for leading electronics companies. With the diversity of ARM IP and the broad ecosystem of supporting silicon and software for ARM-based solutions, the world's leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) use ARM technology in a wide variety of applications ranging from mobile handsets and digital set top boxes to car braking systems and network routers. Today ARM technology is used in more than 95% of the world's mobile handsets and over one-quarter of all electronic devices!
The ARM business model involves the designing and licensing of IP rather than the manufacturing and selling of actual semiconductor chips. ARM licence IP to a network of partners, which includes some of the world's leading semiconductor and systems companies. These Partners utilize ARM IP designs to create and manufacture system-on-chip designs, paying ARM a license fee for the original IP and a royalty on every chip or wafer produced. In addition to processor IP, we provide a range of tools, physical and systems IP to enable optimized system-on-chip designs.

EDF Energy is the UK's largest producer of electricity, Europe's largest generator of low-carbon electricity, and the world's largest provider of nuclear power. They supply energy to over 20 million customers, they're tackling the energy challenge head on, and they've almost 20,000 people dedicated to solving it.
Put simply, we need to lower carbon, whilst increasing the energy supply. By 2015, the UK will be facing an ‘energy gap’, presenting society with an immense challenge: How do we create a future where the way we use and generate energy is sustainable? And truth is, we're facing a skills gap too. It's estimated that there will be over 300,000 engineering vacancies in the UK by the year 2014. That's why, as a leading energy company, EDF Energy are investing in the growth of the UK's future talent pipeline, with opportunities within engineering and right across their business.
EDF is also part of one of Europe's largest power companies, supplying gas and electricity generated from nuclear, coal and gas power stations, combined heat and power plants and wind farms, making EDF Energy a key player in the future of diversified energy provision and sustainability for the UK.
What does that mean for graduates? Well, you'll be joining a leader that is taking practical steps towards a low carbon future, in an industry that's vital to the UK. EDF Energy is also growing fast, with a number of exciting projects for graduates to get involved with. Take London 2012. EDF Energy is the first sustainability partner of London 2012, offering graduates a once-in-a-lifetime chance to help to make this global event truly sustainable. Plus, you'll benefit from a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement, final salary pension, healthcare scheme, discretionary bonus plan, relocation support, and the rewards of solving some of the most complex challenges facing the UK today.
Career development: Opportunities at EDF Energy are wide-ranging, with structured career paths within Energy Analysis, Networks Engineering, Nuclear Science &Engineering, Finance, HR, and Commercial Management & Supply Chain. Training varies from role to role. But what underpins their entire graduate programme is a commitment to developing your skills and knowledge, from hands-on experience to formal training. Where relevant, they'll also support you to gain a professional qualification. Relevant qualifications are important, but if you're to help fill the energy gap, you'll need imagination, vision and some big ideas too. Not to mention the drive and commercial acumen needed to see them through within a modern business environment. You'll also need plenty of ambition, and a degree of flexibility, as although EDF Energy have sites throughout the UK, locations can vary from project to project.
If EDF Energy is to create a future of stable, low carbon energy, they need ideas, progress and action. And graduates in a range of disciplines to get involved. So, if you share their passion for the challenges ahead, they'll give you every opportunity to prove it.
